Why Use The Integrated Gift Tag?
Through conducting market research with several large multi-channel retailers we have identified several methods currently used to produce a personalised gift message card/tag as a result of the end user ordering a gift message/gift wrap service.
Print the gift message on a separate card:
This is a separate process for the operations department and carries the risk of mismatching the card to the correct gift. This process can also involve the purchase of a separate card printer and consumables as well as the printed card product itself. This separate process adds time to the despatch operation of gift items.
Hand writing the message onto a gift tag:
This is a separate process for the operations department and carries the risk of mismatching the card to the correct gift. This option also involves the purchase of separate pre-printed gift cards/tags. Hand writing this message adds the potential issue of human error, i.e. spelling mistakes. This process is extremely labour intensive and could limit the daily despatch capacity.
Label in gift card:
Many online companies will produce a gift label built in to the despatch note; this is because they recognise the importance of printing the picking information and the gift message in one pass. This method can still cause problems for the despatch department as the label needs to be applied carefully because customers expect their gift to arrive well presented. This method also requires the purchase of separate pre-printed cards/tags and is another manual process for the despatch operation, adding time and reducing despatch capacity.
The way forward
The development of the Integrated Gift Tag was due to existing clients’ feedback that they were unhappy with the current methods available to them.
None of these earlier options offered a solution that encompassed the despatch department’s requirement for an accurate time-efficient method. Nor did any of them meet the marketing department’s requirement for a traditional and professional looking gift tag that the gift recipient would instantly recognise.
This also meant that the retailer had to compromise on the quality of the tag and their brand image.
